The font for the Ashoka World between Worlds design line
As big fans ourselves of almost anything Dave Filoni has brought out for Star Wars, we are excited to see what he will do with the Live-Action Ahsoka series. And in anticipations of the show, we wanted to design 1 or 2 lines that featured Ahsoka Tano. We really liked the look of the poster that was brought out to announce the show and wanted to do a line with the Star chart and Ahsoka font that is featured in that poster.
Creating a vector image of the star chart itself was relatively easy but then we came to a point where we had to make a decision concerning the font on the side of the star chart: do we vector the font on the side or do we find the font online and then type it out? We decide for the latter as we want to use this font in the future for Jedi: Fallen Order designs as will as other upcoming designs so it made sense to find the font for future use.
We didnt know it yet, but this ddecision would really lead us down a rabbit hole as these font was no where to be found online. Mistakingly we had thought that it would be available somewhere, just like Aurebesh, since it is used already in so many Star Wars shows and video games (Rebels, Jedi: Fallen Order, the Mandalorian, Book of Boba Fett).
We searched high and low without any results, the main issue being that we didnt know the name of the font. After quite a search and finding nothing we were about to give up until found the image below on page 3 of our search at that time: it was an Image posted by Shereen Rastgar who actually helped develop the font: Turns out the font is based on symbols inspired by work from Ralph McQuarrie himself. It also appears that the font doesnt have a name, at least Shereen doesnt list one on her site
We found the font, but only a graphical representation of it by one of the people who developed it: now what? In this form we cant type it in photoshop or any other editing software so what to do next? Since the font doesn't exist, we though we might as well make it ourselves. So we got ourselves a copy of Font Studio 8 and got to work on learning how to make a font.
We had to give the font a name and decided to call it the "World between Worlds" font since that is where we first saw it being used.
So now that we have our very own World between world font, we decided to do an initial render of the Ahsoka World between World T-shirt: it needs some tweaks but then it will be available in our store.
